Action Game: Play to Learn

Playing other people's games gives ideas to me for my game for animation and for graphics as well. Playing games helps you to think about the design of your own game.

Action Game: Adding Game Ingredients.

When adding the title screen and the win lose screens, I have to remember to change the mouse clicks on my scenes will not change, and I have to remember to remove all events in each of my scenes as well. Sometimes I get in a hurry and forget to number a mouse click and have trouble with a scene change.

Action Game: Add Enemy

I think that the enemy would be more interesting if it would chase the player very closely on the x and the y axis so that it is more difficult for the player to escape from the enemy. I also think that hitting the enemy should cause the player to lose points.

Action Game: Add Score

I prefer games that require you to get to the end because I think that it teaches you to see things to the end and work toward a goal. Getting to a particular score doesn't mean that you have made it to the end of the course or finished a race in my opinion. I'd much rather play to the end--kind of like reading a book or watching a movie.

Action Game: Create Collectables

My collectables allow the player to get points in the game and they can win the game as a result. The collectables are things that are artifacts that were found in the city of Mach Picchu and when the player collects them message boxes come up with interesting facts about the city of Machu Picchu and its civilization.

Action Game: Add Keyboard Control

My game can be more interactive if I make objects move. For example, if the enemy moves and the collectables move. If there is animation on the win or lose screen that can make the game more interactive. Anything that requires the player to be more involved in the game playing process makes my game more interactive.

Action Game: Move with Game Loop

The player was able to move continuously with this coding and move off the stage from right to left. It didn't take much coding to allow the player to do this but he only moves horizontally and not vertically using this coding.

Action Game: Set Start Position

Changing the X position of the player moves his horizontal position on the stage, and changing his y position moves his vertical position on the stage. I moved the player to where I needed him to be positioned in my game rather than the 400 position as the lesson instructed.

Action Game: Create Movie Clip

The player in my action game is an Inca warrior who is trying to avoid getting the disease that has killed people in his city of Machu Picchu. He is dressed in the typical warrior dress of the day with a shield and a sword ready to do battle with the deadly disease that is killing his people, but he is unaware that that they are defenseless against it and tragically the city falls because of this deadly enemy.

Action Game: Paper Prototype

The paper prototype always helps you to see what you are visualizing in your mind and it helps to work out any bugs that you may not have thought about when you were designing the game.

Action Game: Plan Game Scene

I am excited about making my game about Machu Picchu because it is such an interesting topic and I think it will be fun to make. I believe other people will be interested it in as well. Ancient history is fascinating and we have so much to learn from past cultures but reading about it is not very interesting to most people, so a game might be more interesting.

Action Game: Choose Learning Topic

In researching for my action game topic, I learned several things that I didn't know about Machu Picchu and about the people who lived there. I never realized that the city was so sophisticated and that the reason the people died was because of small pox. Making a game about this can present the information in an entertaining way. This will allow more individuals to learn about it as they play the game especially if they aren't too interested in ancient history.
