As Thanksgiving is approaching, we are nearing the last of the semester and that means that the game development process should be well underway. Game demos should be nearly finished in the block class and the full-year class should be starting them.
It is a daunting task to some of the students to present the demo in front of the camera. A practice session will help as will some advice from peers. Watching some of the presentations from other schools is also another way to approach the demo. It may give the teams some ideas of what to do and what not to do in their presentations.
From personal experience, I can say, practice, practice, practice. That's one thing that I never did. I didn't have time to prepare because I was still working on my game and trying to finish up the demo. I had stayed up the night before until the wee hours of the morning, and I was in class the entire day working away. But, I was as unprepared as I could be, and I didn't know what to expect. And, yes, it was far worse than anything I could have imagined too!
However, this doesn't have to happen to you if you have to present. Don't wait until the last minute to prepare. Students have had several weeks to work on developing their demos and the beginning levels of their games. The secret of success is being prepared and that is my goal for each of my students. I am here to help make that happen. Let's do it!
